who we are
St Stephen's Green Trust is a grant giving charitable organisation which operates a range of grant programmes on the island of Ireland.
The grant programmes seek to effect social change in a range of areas which have been identified as both critical and hard to fund through periodic reviews. The Trust provides small-scale strategic funding and other supports to organisations trying to respond to these areas of critical need.
The Trust developed a Strategic Plan 2014-2018 to focus on specific areas of greatest need and this is outlined here. This strategy has informed the current range of grant programmes. The Trust also responds to emerging need if an appropriate opportunity arises.
The Trust is a company limited by guarantee and also a registered charity. Annual Reports and Financial Statements are available here. The Trust is committed to openness and transparency and publishes all its grants in the annual reports.
SSGT was set up in Ireland in 1992 by Porticus, a Dutch Foundation, which operates worldwide. Since 2003, we have managed funds for other donors, mainly Irish religious orders, which requested the Trust to assist them in their giving. They include the Daughters of the Cross of Liege, the Discalced Carmelites, the Oblate Congregation and the Sisters of Mercy. SSGT gives grants to organisations operating on the island of Ireland under a range of grant programmes.
A short history of the Trust published in 2013 to mark 21 years in operation is here.
